Food. It's the fuel for the body, mind, and seemingly for the soul in my case. When I eat crap, I feel like crap. It makes me want to be a slug and just sit on my tush and put zero energy into my family and day to day tasks. I ate like crap for the most of my pregnancy (and blamed my resulting all-around crappy feeling and mood on pregnancy, that bitch). Polishing off trays of Oreos and order for a family of 4 at the drive though (read: me) were not my proudest moments but anyone who has been to the god forsaken places called Pregnancy and Nausea and Morning Sickness can vouche for me. For example, the beautiful wild salmon fillets drizzled with olive oil and capers, dunked in a fresh tomato basil sauce and topped with chick peas would have had me GAGGING just a few months ago. Tonight, I devoured it and contemplated licking my plate.
What dinner looked like tonight.
What dinner would have looked like tonight if I were still pregnant.
The result? I. Feel. Fabulous. It was filling yet light, and I had the energy to play Let's Braid All 9 Of My Dolls' Hair and Horse Races and Hand Clap Games with my energetic nine year old daughter (those who are unfamiliar with the exuberance of nine year old girls, read here: this takes some serious energy. And concentration. If you start planning your chore list in your head during these mom and me girl time sessions, she will know!)
Then I did my evening pumping session, and whoa, milk supply! I've always noticed my daily water intake directly affecting my milk productivity for the day (no brainier), but consistently eating clean with lots of fruits and veggies and eliminating processed junk seems to put the milk duds into high gear. And calories! Definitely no skimping on the calories since my last entry, and that is key. And the trusty GI works like a charm as an added bonus with all this fiber and fluids!
So all of this has me feeling pretty good these past few days. Fueling my body, mind, and soul, and subsequently "fueling" my family as well.
....on a side note, I mentioned to my hubby that I just may want dust off the ol' running shoes tomorrow and give it a go.
He looked at me with crazy eyes. Dare me!
