Time for some progress pics! I’m officially one month into my workout and nutrition gig. I can feel my cardio base getting stronger, less bodily jiggle when I do jumping jacks and such, and most of my junk food cravings have ceased. Wine cravings are still in full force, however, sorrynotsorry. In addition to following the T25 workout calendar, I’ve added in some weekend gym sessions to use the treadmill, stationary bike, and pool to train for my upcoming baby indoors triathlon. Oh, and a 30 day plank challenge. Results:
Love handles, be gone! Then this also happened today.....
I dipped toe in my gym's swimming pool. First and foremost, this pool needs a user review because it’s just so fab. It’s salt water, which I did not know existed in pool-form, so it’s kinda cool that I can go for a chemical-free swim and my skin doesn’t peel off afterwards. And it makes me buoyant and floaty! Next, DAMN this thing is clean! I dropped my wax earplug and had to dive to get it, and there was literally not a single epithelial cell or grime bit on the floor of that pool. Lastly, the man in the lane next to me was wearing bright red flippers and normal swim trunks (not a speedo, thank the heavens), so I now I can be assured that the pool has awesome clientele. Pool is Michelle-approved. (Side story: one time in the Oak Harbor pool, an old man was sharing a lane with me whilst wearing only his tighty whities. Scarred for life).
It felt very alien to get back into the water. The fact that my massive Billerica bun didn’t fit under my swim cap didn’t help matters either. Hair cut time. I’ve posted before about how uncomfortable I am with swimming, and how I opted out of the swimming leg of my last tri event in favor of a second running leg because I just wasn't ready for an open water swim. I think my fear stems from a combination of not having regular access to a pool or any swim lessons as a kid, coupled with the fact that my asthma was extreme back then and not being able to breathe while underwater brings me back to the panic associated with asthma attacks. The running and cycling are like second nature to me, so in a twisted way, I’m glad I have a challenging training aspect for this race. Me loves a good challenge!
