Meet the triathlete in training
I can’t pinpoint exactly when my love of fitness began, but it was probably circa taking home a blue ribbon following a grade school field day event. Maybe potato sack race, or the 50 yard dash? Not entirely sure. All I remember is pushing myself to the limits, yearning for those blue ribbons. And it hasn’t ceased.
I consider myself to be a runner at heart. I took up running semi-seriously during college and then very seriously after getting married and moving to Washington. I have many 5Ks and 10Ks under my belt and I've completed two half marathons with a PR of 2:00:45. Yay! Now to add two new sports to the mix, and I will graduate from Runner to Triathlete….
My primary occupation is a Registered Nurse. I also have certifications through NASM of Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Nutrition Specialist. I am in the midst of being a stay at home mom to my nine year old daughter Evelyn and infant son Oliver. I will be returning to work as an RN at some point in Spring 2014.
To date, I've competed in the TriFreaks event in Kirkland, WA. I opted to skip the swimming portion of the race and do a run-bike-run duathlon combo instead, since I learned early on in my preliminary triathlon training that I have a, ahem, fear of water. I am hoping to overcome this little road bump and participate in a sprint TRIathlon in May 2014.
