As if I’m not already fitness-crazed enough, I suddenly feel the urge to become more even more crazed. And by “more crazed” I mean adding on swimming and biking to my 10+ mile runs. WEEEEE triathlons. And yes, it’s tri-ath-lons and not tri-ath-A-lons as I originally thought. Google corrected me real quick with that misspelling.
I’ve always had a true admiration and deep respect for athletes well-versed in multiple sports, and I would be honored to join their ranks. A part of me has wanted to train for a triathlon for years, but I’ve held back, largely due to lack or resources aka no bike/equipment fund, and lack of confidence. I have yet to find out, but I’m quite sure the mindset to train for and successfully complete a triathlon differs greatly from popping in a Beachbody DVD. Don’t get me wrong: Tony Horton, Shaun T., and Chalene Johnson are primary responsible for the definition of each of my large muscle groups, but I theorize that it takes extra OOMPH and a bit more pizzazz to constantly transition between three very different , highly aerobic sports.
Also I am overly preoccupied with buying anything fitness related. Other women prefer to drop big money on designer bags, shoes, and clothing, but I would rather pump my hard earned dollars into equipment designed to induce sweat and materials to wick it away. My gracious husband has agreed to a Tri Budget for a new bike, swim gear, tri suit, etc. I have The Master List of Spending saved on my phone with my Evernote app. Not a cheap event, but WEEEEEEEE shopping. No more running goodies though, I am maxed out in that department.
Other than continuing with my running, I have not started training with swimming and biking sessions yet. And that would be because I do not own a bike or swimsuit. Unless my bikinis count, but somehow I don’t think triathletes train in those little triangles of fabric.
So here I go! Swimming shopping and hopefully bike shopping this week, and training sessions to follow!!
